Gold Dipped Digits

A little afternoon pick-me-up never hurts, especially if your mani matches your mug.

Missoni for Target tea cup inspired nails.

Missoni for Target tea cup complimenting my nails.

I thought winter wasn’t a time for bright white (as I look about as pasty as a malnourished Cinderella and the colorless hue could possibly add to the dull of my skin) but I felt inspired after seeing Kitt Noir’s accent nail on Instagam and decided to put my own spin on the look.

OPI nail polish in Glow Up Already and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in White On.

After one swipe of base, I applied two coats of White On and once semi-dry, I tipped my talons with a thick strip of Glow Up Already (this has to be my all-time favorite name of a nail polish thanks to many ex-boyfriends). Topping the entire mani off with a stroke of Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat (the best you’ll ever use) on each nail, I was happily satisfied with the look.

Even more delighted with how the mani complimented my cup.

Oh it’s close to happy hour…

My cup that’s filled with all kinds of fun on a Monday afternoon…

It's five o'clock somewhere.

Stop torturing me with your gorgeous nails! I love this look. 🙂 I’m going to go do my nails. Right now.

  8. I love the look, but how do you get the white polish not to be all streaky?? I have OPI but it always looks like I’ve painted on whiteout or something…

    • Thanks Girl! I apply a very thin, streaky coat of white first. Then do a thicker second coat, which seems to set without streaks. The best white I’ve used is Sally Hansen’s White Out. But I will say, it takes practice with the white – especially staying in the lines!

  9. Red with the gold sparkles might look very festive this time of year. 🙂 Wish I had the patience to bother with my nails. I haven’t done that in ages.

  10. Clever! (I was just telling myself this morning that it was about time for another mani post from you).

And, one of these days, I want to see a photo of your nail-polish collection. It must be awesome! Do you have, like, a polish cellar or something?

How is the application on this white polish? Any time I try white or a strong pastel color my nails end up looking super streaky. But I really want to try the white polish!

    • This Sally Hansen White Out is the best white polish I’ve used so far. It seems thicker than most. But to start, I follow my base coat with a thin coat of white, which is streaky. I let that dry for a minute and then go back with a thicker coat of this white and I haven’t had a problem with streaking. My main headache is the white polish that ends up on the outside of my nail beds!

It’s so bright against your skin! A real eye catcher! 😀

  17. I love your nails. Perfect for the upcoming holidays. The mug matches perfectly.

  18. […] Holiday collection, and then I had no idea what to do with it.  Then I remembered a really cute mani on one of my favorite blogs – Cowboys and Crossbones.  It was gold french tips on white […]
